A certified Six Sigma Yellow Belt acts as a subject matter expert during a process improvement project. Here's an example:

Dave works at ABC manufacturing as a production assistant. He uses a manufacturing press to make widgets. His company has implemented a Six Sigma improvement project to help streamline the manufacturing process. Greg, a manager at the company asks Dave to serve as a Yellow Belt during the project. Because Dave uses the manufacturing press every day, he has detailed knowledge on how the press works, and the positives and negatives associated with using it. The Yellow Belts role on a Six Sigma project is part-time only and Dave will continue to fulfill his normal job duties. His role on the Six Sigma project will only last a few weeks.
